Security has been beefed up at Barguna Court premises, centring the verdict of Rifat Sharif murder case set to be delivered today.

District and Sessions Judge of Barguna Md Asaduzzaman was set to read out the judgment against 10 accused, including the victim's widow Ayesha Siddika Minni, at 11:00am.

Minni along with her father Mozzammel Haque Kishore came to the court premises at 9:00am, reports our local correspondent.

"My daughter will be acquitted if justice is done. If there is any influence, Minni can be implicated. In that case, we will go to the High Court," Kishore said.

Minni's lawyer Advocate Mahbubul Bari Aslam said they have submitted all the evidence in favour of Minni to the court.

Earlier last night, two gunmen were appointed for Rifat's father and police personnel have been deployed at Rifat's house for their security.

Morhom Ali, additional superintendent of police (headquarters), said a three-tier security was set up at the court.

"Movement of people have been restricted. To ensure the security of the plaintiff and his family members, police personnel have been deployed. Check-points have been set up at all the important parts of the city including court premises," he added.

Barguna District and Session Court's Public Prosecutor Bhuban Chandra Haldar said the verdict of Rifat murder case is going to be announced today as per the pre-scheduled date.

"Judgment will be delivered against 10 accused, including the victim's wife Ayesha Siddika Minni. Trial of 14 other accused is going on in the Barguna Children's Court as they are juveniles," he added.

According to court sources, 76 witnesses testified against the 10 accused. The prosecution and defence then placed their arguments in the court for and against the accused.

Rifat, 25, an internet service provider, was attacked by some youths in front of Barguna Government College in broad daylight on June 26 last year. Later, he died in Barishal Medical College Hospital.

On September 1 that year, police submitted separate charge sheets to the court, accusing 10 adults and 14 juveniles.

The Barguna District and Sessions Judge Court framed charges against the 10 accused in the murder case on January 1 this year.
