Renowned journalist and writer Rahat Khan no more
Renowned journalist and writer Rahat Khan passed away at his residence in Dhaka tonight. He was 80.
He breathed his last at his Eskaton residence in the capital around 8:30pm, his colleague Nehal Ahmed confirmed to The Daily Star.
He had been ailing from diabetes, kidney and heart problems for long.
Rahat Khan's wife Aparna Khan also made a post on social media over her husband's death.
Born on December 19, 1940 in Kishoreganj, Rahat Khan was the assistant editor and acting editor of the daily Ittefaq.
He won the Ekushey Padak in 1996 and Bangla Academy Sahitya Purashkar 1973.
Meanwhile, President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Rahat Khan, reports BSS.
In a condolence message, the president said being a journalist Rahat Khan contributed a lot to the practice of free thinking and advancement of the society.
"His [Rahat Khan's] death is really irreparable loss to the arena of journalism and literature as well," Abdul Hamid added.
In a condolence message, the prime minister with profound respect recalled Rahat Khan's outstanding contributions to the fields of journalism and literature.
"His death is an irreparable loss to these fields," she said.
Sheikh Hasina also prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.
