Razing elephant habitat: DoE seizes excavator, trucks in Ctg’s Rangunia

Officials of the Department of Environment (DoE) in Chattogram have seized an excavator, a dump truck and a mini truck while razing hills that were known elephant habitats at Mirerkhil village of Sharaf Bhata union of Rangunia upazila.

Karnaphuli Brick Work has been razing the elephant habitat for the last two weeks for their kiln and flattened 12,600 square feet, said Harun Patan, inspector of DoE.

They rushed to the spot today and seized an excavator, a dump truck and a mini truck from the spot.

Quoting locals, Harun said the area is known as an elephant habitat. He added that he will submit a report to his high ups for further action in this regard.
