Graft case: Rashedul Haque Chisty’s bail petition to be heard on August 20
A Dhaka court today fixed August 20 for further hearing on the bail petition of Rashedul Haque Chisty, son of former Padma Bank audit committee chairman Mahbubul Haque Chisty, and his brother-in-law Mostafa Kamal in a graft case.
Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of the Senior Special Judge's Court of Dhaka passed the order after their lawyer submitted a petition seeking bail in the case, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan confirmed to The Daily Star.
The case was filed with the Integrated District Office-1 of Dhaka on December 5 last year on charges of acquiring a non-taxation of Tk 84,72,183 and concealing information of assets worth Tk 2,52,82,685.
Mostafa, chairman of Danua union under Bakshiganj upazila in Jamalpur district, was sued in the case. But Rashedul was shown arrested on July 5 as his involvement with the incident was found.
Soon after the case was filed, the ACC arrested Mostafa from Dhaka's Shantinagar area.
The ACC also found that most of Mahbubul's wealth is registered under Mostafa's name.
Mahbubul was sued in over 18 other graft cases for his alleged involvement in embezzling a large amount of money from the bank.
