One of nine accused in Noakhali gang-rape surrenders, sent to jail

One of the people who were accused in a case filed over the gang-rape of a woman in Noakhali's Begumganj surrendered before a local court today.

The accused, Md Israfil Hossain Mia (22), surrendered before the Noakhali Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court this noon and sought bail, said Noakhali Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Inspector Sirajul Mostafa.

After a hearing, the court denied his bail and sent him to jail.

Israfil is the fourth accused in the two cases filed under Women and Child Repression Prevention Act and Pornography Control Act, he said.

PBI Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman Munshi said seven of the nine accused in the cases have been arrested so far.

Police are trying to arrest the other two accused, he added.
