One killed, 20 injured as villagers clash in Sirajganj
A man was killed and 20 others were injured as villagers of Ghorashal and Kamalpur villages of Shahzadpur upazila of Sirajganj district clashed over a trivial matter on Sunday.
The deceased, Md Ashraf Ali Pramanik, 35, son of Jinnat Ali Pramanik of village Ghorasal village, had an altercation with a few youths in Kamalpur village over selling ice-cream at around 11:00am on Sunday.
Later, when Ashraf was returning home through Kamalpur village, some villagers stabbed him. He was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The death of Ashraf agitated the people of Ghorashal village. Equipped with locally made weapons, they attacked the residents of Kamalpur villageat around 7:30pm, leaving 20 people from both sides injured. Houses and shops were vandalised during the clash, sources said.
On information, police from Shahzadpur and Enayetpur Police Stations rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, said Md Rezaul Haque, officer-in-charge of Shahzadpur Police Station.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Sirajganj General Hospital for autopsy yesterday, the OC said, adding that a case was filed against 60 villagers of Kamalpur village in this connection. Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to avoid further trouble.
