Police last night arrested two persons including the main suspect in a case filed over murder of a Chinese technician working at Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge in Pirojpur.

The arrestees are Siraj Sheikh (35) of Guabaria village and Rana (25) of Kumarkhali village, in Sadar upazila.

Of the arrestees, the main suspect Siraj was arrested from his relative's house in the district town last night, our local correspondent reports quoting Md Nurul Islam Badal, officer-in-charge of Pirojpur Sadar Police Station.

Chinese national Laupha (58) was stabbed to death allegedly by a mugger near the site of the bridge being constructed over Kocha river in Pirojpur's Sadar upazila last evening.

Later, Chief Security Officer of the project Chao Ching Hua filed the murder case with Pirojpur Sadar Police Station, accusing unknown persons.

Deputy Inspector General of Barishal range Md Shafiqul Islam, Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim and Barishal Divisional Commissioner Dr Amitab Sarkar visited the spot today.

While talking to media, the DIG said the Chinese people working under the project have expressed satisfaction of the security measures taken after the death of Laupha.

The arrestee -- Siraj -- got out of jail a week ago after getting bail in a rape case.

A total of 38 Chinese citizens are now staying at the project site, said Pirojpur Executive Engineering of Roads and Highways Masud Mahmud.
