Killing 3 in ‘staged gunfight’: Pradeep, 34 other police personnel sued
A case was filed today against 41 people including former Teknaf Police Station officer-in-charge Pradeep Kumar Das and 34 other police personnel for killing three people in a "staged gunfight".
The police personnel, who were sued in the case, were members of Teknaf Police Station when the incident took place on May 6, our Cox's Bazar correspondent reports.
Judge Md Helal Uddin of Cox's Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate Court-3 accepted the case and asked Teknaf Police Station officer-in-charge to submit a report by September 15 on the progress of the case if it was filed earlier.
Sultana Rabia Munni, wife of one of the three victims, filed the case with the court, the plaintiff's lawyer Md Kashem Ali told our Cox's Bazar correspondent.
Sultana in the case said that the accused picked up her husband Syed Alam, brother-in-law Nurul Alam, and nephew Syed Hossain from their Gazipara homes on May 6 and later former OC Pradeep and then Teknaf Police Station Sub-inspector Mashiur Rahman demanded Tk 50 lakh from their families.
When their families told the policemen that they could not pay the amount, the accused took Alam, Nurul and Hossain on a paddy field and killed them in a "staged gunfight".
The accused also vandalised houses of the victims, looted valuables and beat their family members.
Pradeep and Mashiur also threatened the victims' families not to say anything about the incident to anyone. If they did, they would also be killed in gunfight, the plaintiff said in the case statement.
