India’s ban on onion export: JS body asks foreign ministry to look into ‘probable conspiracy’
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs today asked the foreign ministry to look into whether there is any conspiracy behind India's sudden decision to stop onion export.
The parliamentary watchdog held its meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban today where several members of the committee expressed dissatisfaction over India's ban on onion exports, which has caused a supply crunch and price of the kitchen staple to spiral in the Bangladesh market.
The committee also asked all the ministries to take advice in advance from the foreign ministry before receiving any gift, honour or assistance in line with the international norms and policies from any foreign country or organisation.
At the meeting, the foreign ministry informed the committee that significant progress has been made in bringing back the fugitive killers of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Ruling Awami League MP Muhammad Faruk Khan from Gopalgonj-1 chaired the meeting, which was attended by Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam, Nurul Islam Nahid, Golam Faruk Khandah Prince, Md Habibe Millat, Nahim Razzak, Kazi Nabil Ahmed and Nizam Uddin Jalil (John), among others.
