Housewife gang raped in Jashore

A housewife was gang raped by some people at a village in Jhikargachcha upazila of Jashore.

Abdur Razzak, officer-in-charge of Jhikargachcha Police Station, said the rapists obstructed the woman on a road in the village when she was going to a neighbouring house around 10:30pm on Thursday.

They dragged the woman to a nearby grass field, raped her and later left her on the train line.

Police rescued the woman yesterday morning as a pedestrian found her there in an unconscious state and called 999, said the OC.

The victim was sent to Jashore General Hospital for medical test, he said.

Police arrested four alleged rapists from different areas after conducting a drive overnight yesterday, said OC Abdur Razzak.

The arrestees are Zakir Hossain (20), Alam Hossain (25), Abdul Jalil ( 23) and Hasanur Rahman (20) of Purandapur village in the upazila, our Benapole correspondent reports, quoting the OC.

A case was filed against 11 people with the police station in this connection, said the OC, adding that all the rapists, who are fishermen by profession, confessed to the police to raping the woman.

The police will file a remand petition today with the court to quiz the accused, added the OC.
