Grabbers give land back to 98-yr-old
Land grabbers have given back 1,658 decimals (16.58 acres) of land to the 98-year-old school teacher in Chattogram after intervention of administration and law enforcers.
Our local staff correspondent reports, Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury directly ordered local authorities to jump into action after hearing the news.
Towhidul Haque Chowdhury, chairman of Anwara upazila, confirmed that grabbers have given back the land after action of law enforcers and administration.
The ownership of the land was transferred in a legal manner at the sub-registry office of Anwara upazila, Md Salahuddin, sub-registrar of the office, said.
Earlier, the 98-year-old retired schoolteacher Niranjan Chakroborty was driven out of his ancestral land by grabbers in Anwara upazila of Chattogram.
According to a case filed with Anwara Police Station by Niranjan’s son Pranab Ranjan Chakroborty on April 18, some 13 people led by local resident Kamrul Islam Helal forcibly took the fingerprint of Niranjan at gunpoint on April 10.
Later, various newspaper articles brought the matter to attention of the minister.
