A college girl took her own life by hanging herself from the ceiling of her room allegedly over a family feud in Melandah upazila of the district on Tuesday night.

The deceased, Atiya Jannat Aklima, 17, daughter of Alif of Telipara village in the upazila, an HSC first-year student at Hazrabari Sirajul Haque Degree College.

Quoting the victim's family members, Officer in Charge (OC) of Melandah Police Station Rezaul Islam said Atiya locked in an altercation with her family members over a trivial matter on Tuesday night.

At one stage, she went to her room, locked the door from inside and hanged herself from the ceiling of her room around 10:30pm, the OC said, adding that, being informed, they recovered the body and sent it to Jamalpur General Hospital for autopsy.
