A former local leader of outlawed Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) was died after being shot in Khulna's Phultala upazila yesterday evening.

The deceased was identified as Mollah Hemayet Hossain Lipu, 45, of Tajpur village in the upazila, said Mahtab Uddin, officer-in-charge of Phultala Police Station.

Lipu was among 35 outlaws who surrendered to the home minister in Pabna in 2019, said police.

Quoting locals, OC Mahtab said a group of four to five people on two motorcycles opened fire on Lipu at Gorurhat area of Tajpur village around 7:00pm, leaving him injured.

He was rushed to Phultala Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead, our Khulna correspondent reports quoting the OC.
