Fire at Mymensingh power grid: Electricity supply resumed in 3 districts

The power supply, which had been disrupted in the entire Mymensingh division following a fire at Mymensingh city's Kewatkhali Power Grid, was restored in three districts -- Jamalpur, Sherpur and Netrakona -- at 5:30pm.

Besides, the power supply in some areas of Mymensingh district has also been resumed around 7:00pm, reports our Mymensingh correspondent quoting Md Rafiqul Islam, executive engineer of the Power Development Board in Mymensingh.

"We are desperately trying to restore smooth power supply in the entire division within a short time," the engineer said.

The fire that broke out around 1:00pm from a transformer of the grid left the entire Mymensingh division out of electricity since this noon.

The incident might have occurred due to an electric short circuit, said Md Abul Hossain, deputy director of Fire Service and Civil Defence in Mymensingh.

On information, fire fighters from the city rushed to the spot immediately and brought the fire under control after two-and-a-half-hour of frantic effort, said the official.

Losses due to the fire could not be assessed immediately, he added. No casualties were reported.
