Fake Covid-19 certificates: DB seeks 7-day remand to quiz JKG Chief and others
Detectives today submitted a seven-day remand prayer to quiz JKG Health Care Chief Executive Officer Ariful Chowdhury and one of his associates Sayeed Chowdhury in a case filed for issuing fake Covid-19 certificates.
An inspector of the Detective Branch ((DB) of police submitted the remand prayer with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka, an official of the court confirmed to The Daily Star.
Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Sufiyan Md Noman fixed tomorrow for hearing on the remand prayer in presence of the accused.
The case filed with Tejgaon Police Station was handed over to the DB for investigation.
Police arrested JKG Health Care Chairman Dr Sabrina, also a government official, on Sunday around three weeks after the scam came to light.
Following her arrest, the health ministry suspended her from the post of registrar at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases for violating rules.
Earlier on June 24, police arrested her husband Ariful Chowdhury and four others for their alleged involvement in issuing fake Covid-19 certificates.
The four are – Humayun Kabir and his wife Tanzina Patwary, Sayeed Chowdhury and Al Mamun.
