Didn’t use abusive words against DC, AC (land) in phone call: Nixon Chowdhury

Lawmaker violated electoral code; action will be taken, says CEC

Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury -- popularly known as Nixon Chowdhury -- lawmaker of Faridpur-4, today demanded legal action against Faridpur Deputy Commissioner Atul Sarkar for acting in favour of BNP candidate KM Obaidul Bari in the recently held election for the chairman post of Charbhadrasan upazila.

Addressing a press conference at Jatiya Press Club, Mujibur alleged that the Faridpur DC was involved in circulating his telephone conversation with the Charbhadrasan upazila nirbahi officer after, which contained abusive language against an AC (land). He claimed the phone conversation was heavily edited.

Flanked by local Awami League leaders at the briefing, the independent MP said executive magistrates in the upazila election held on October 10 carried out a rampage created to bar voters from casting their votes in favour of the AL-backed candidate Md Kawsar and arrested many AL leaders and activists.

About the phone calls to the UNO and the AC (land), Nixon said after the arrest of one AL man on election day "for smoking", he called the AC (land) first. He told Nixon that he will look into the matter.

"But the AC (land) switched off his phone. Later I called the UNO, and said, 'Apa, one of my men was detained. He did nothing wrong, standing at the field he was just smoking. But he was detained by BGB. Please take action. That's what I told her… The rest of what's heard is not me," claimed Nixon.

"I didn't use any abusive word while talking with the UNO," he added.

He also said what has been circulated on social media [abusive words against the DC, AC (land)] was not his voice.

"It was made through heavy editing and the DC has instructed his officials to do that," said Nixon.

"Prove that it was me," he told the briefing.
