Dhaka’s rail service with northern, southern dists resumes
Rail communication of Dhaka with northern and southern districts has resumed three hours after its suspension as two compartments of Khulna-bound Sundarban Express derailed on the eastern side of the Bangabandhu bridge.
The rail service was restored around 4:30pm, Rezaul Karim, station master of Bangabandhu bridge’s eastern part, told The Daily Star.
Earlier in the day, two compartments of the Sundarban Express veered off the rail tracks near the east corner of the bridge around 1:20pm, said Mizanur Rahman, divisional railway manager (Pakshi).
Later, a rescue team rushed to the spot and salvaged the derailed compartments of the train, he added.
Timetable of some trains rescheduled
Bangladesh Railway rescheduled timetable of some trains only for today after derailment of Khulna-bound Sundarban Express on the eastern side of the Bangabandhu bridge.
According to the new schedule, Silk City Express (Train No. 753) which is delayed for six hours and 20 minutes will start from Dhaka’s Kamalapur Railway Station at 9:00pm, Chitra Express (Train No. 764) with a delay of four hours will leave at 11:00pm and Drutajan Express (Train No. 767) which is delayed by one hour and 45 minutes will leave at 9:45pm.
Additionally, Padma Express (Train No. 759) with six hours’ delay will leave the Kamalapur Railway Station at 5:10am, Benapole Express (Train No. 795) delayed by two hours will leave at 2:40am, according to a notice of Bangladesh Railway.
Apart from these trains, some west bound trains will start from Dhaka with around one-hour delay today.
