Depression at Bay: 800 cyclone centres, 6,000 volunteers ready in Patuakhali

Patuakhali administration has prepared 800 shelters in the area for combating possible cyclone triggered by the depression at Bay.

Six thousand volunteers and 110 medical teams are also ready for any escalation of the situation, said Md Matiul Islam Chowdhury, district administrator of Patuakhali, during an urgent meeting at his office last night.

"We have also stored Tk 2 lakh cash and 285 metric tonne rice," the DA added.

People need to call national helpline 999 for any kind of help and information, said additional superintendent of police Sheikh Bilal Hosen. Police hotline for Patuakhali is 01320156099, he also revealed.

"We also have enough medicines and treatment materials at store for crisis periods," said Dr Md Rezaur Rahman, representative of the district's civil surgeon.

River port official Khwaja Sadiqur Rahman said vessels and speedboats under 65 feet of length were asked to not get in the water.
