Death of mountaineer Ratna: Microbus driver sent to jail

Md Nayem, driver of the microbus that ran over and killed young mountaineer Reshma Nahar Ratna, was sent to jail today on expiry of his two-day remand in the case.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Baki Billah passed the order after Sub-Inspector Mubarak Ali of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station -- and also the investigation officer (IO) of the case -- produced him before his court with a forwarding report.
In the forwarding report, the IO said the accused admitted his guilt to running over the victim and he appealed to the court to confine the accused in jail until the investigation is completed.
On August 18, police arrested Md Nayem (27) from Kafrul's Ibrahimpur area in the capital and seized the black Toyota HiAce microbus.
The following day, the court placed him on a two-day remand after he was produced before it with a five-day remand prayer.
On August 7, Reshma was killed after the microbus hit her bicycle on Lake Road near the Jatiya Sangsad in the capital.
Later, a case was filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station in this connection.
