The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has refused to grant bail to Abu Naser Chowdhury, a convict in the sensational Commodore Ghulam Rabbani murder case.

Justice Hasan Foez Siddique, chamber judge of the SC's Appellate Division, passed the order refusing the bail bonds yesterday after hearing a bail petition filed by Abu Naser Chowdhury.

The apex court judge, however, sent the bail petition to its full bench for a hearing on November 22.

Lawyer Nozrul Islam Chowdhury appeared for Abu Naser Chowdhury while Attorney General AM Amin Uddin represented the state.

Commodore Ghulam Rabbani, a former Korean Export Processing Zone (KEPZ) managing director and a former aide-de-camp of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was shot by criminals at Muradpur in Chattogram on April 11, 2004.

Rabbani, who had also been a vital prosecution witness in both the Bangabandhu murder and the jail killing cases, succumbed to his injuries at Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok 13 days later.

Of the four convicted persons in the murder case, three -- Naser, Humayun Kabir Chowdhury and Md Salim -- have been sentenced to life imprisonment while the HC cancelled the acquittal of the other -- Saiful Islam alias Bilai Saiful-- on February 12, 2014.
