CJ decides to run both regular and virtual High Court functions
Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain has decided to run both regular and virtual proceedings of the High Court from next week for the interest of lawyers and litigants.
The chief justice took the decision at a full court meeting today with judges from both the Appellate and High Court Divisions of the Supreme Court.
Lawyers who are interested to attend regular (physical) court will move cases before the HC benches, while others will move cases before virtual HC benches.
Meeting sources said more than 40 High Court judges of 92 present expressed views for conducting court functions in physical presence with strict adherence to health guidelines. The rest opted to continue virtual proceedings of the HC in order to contain the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Now, the chief justice will constitute benches with the judges concerned in order to operate both the physical and virtual functions of the HC.
Most of the judges, who joined the virtual full court meeting through video conferencing, have proposed to curtail the next vacation of the court to recover the gaps caused by the ongoing Covid-19, according to the sources.
Today's full court meeting did not discuss about the functions of the Appellate Division as all the judges of this division are continuing to run virtual proceedings led by chief justice.
