Child psychologists to be appointed in every district: education minister says
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni today said that the government will be appointing a child psychologist in each district, followed by plans to appoint one at upazila level.
The minister disclosed this while speaking as the chief guest at an online discussion titled Let's Talk on Youth Education and Skills organised by CRI and Young Bangla.
"Our young generation is very sensitive. Different types of questions always arise in their minds. They are harassed and victimised in various ways in the family, society and educational institutions. Because of this they suffer from various mental problems which intensify depression and frustration," she said.
Students are especially upset because of the Covid-19 situation, said the minister.
Considering all these, the Ministry of Education would like to appoint a child psychologist in each upazila of the country, she said.
Dipu Moni said that one child psychologist would be appointed in each district at the initial stage. Later, child psychologists will be appointed in upazila level.
Dipu Moni said her ministry is giving utmost importance to high quality, skills-focused technical education, towards achieving the 'national dream' of building developed and prosperous Bangladesh by 2041, as well as meeting the 'international commitment' enshrined in the Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs.
The government has taken a plan to make a skills/trade course compulsory for every student in class IX and X with the aim of mainstreaming technical education, added Dipu Moni.
