Chhatra Odhikar Songrokkhon Parishad convener relieved of duties
Hasan Al Mamun, convenor of Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Odhikar Songrokkhon Parishad, has been relieved of his duties after a rape case was filed against him and five others by a Dhaka University student earlier this week.
The platform formed a three-member committee today to investigate the allegation. They have been asked to submit a report within 48 hours.
Mamun was relieved of his responsibility for the sake of fair investigation, says a press release signed by Rashed Khan, joint convenor of the organisation.
The probe committee members are: Bin Yamin Mollah, president of the organisation's Dhaka University unit, Tarek Rahman and Rafia Sultana, both joint convenors of the platform's central committee.
The Dhaka University student filed two cases against six of the platform's leaders including former Ducsu vice-president Nurul Haque Nur with Lalbagh and Kotwali Police Stations on Sunday and Monday respectively.
In the first case, the complainant mentioned Hasan Al Mamun, convener of the parishad, as the prime accused, alleging that he raped her in his Lalbagh residence on January 3.
In the second case, Nazmul Hasan Sohag, joint convener of the parishad, was made the prime accused.
In both cases, the complainant alleged that Nur, in the name of negotiating the matter, "threatened her of character assassination through posts on social media". The platform yesterday staged demonstration and demanded withdrawal of the cases.
