Biman resumes commercial flights to UAE

Biman Bangladesh Airlines today resumed commercial flight operation to UAE after a four-month suspension, following outbreak of Covid-19 in March.

The national flag carrier resumed the operations with a flight to Dubai that took off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 4:35pm with 186 passengers on board, said Tahera Khondoker, deputy general manager (public relations) of Biman.

She also said all passengers had to carry Covid-19 certificates confirming their negative status before boarding the flight.

Biman will resume flights on Dhaka-Abu Dhabi-Dhaka route from tomorrow.

Biman will operate three weekly flights on Dhaka-Dubai-Dhaka route on Monday, Thursday and Saturday and three flights on the Dhaka-Abu Dhabi-Dhaka route on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

Earlier, Biman had planned to resume its regular flights on Dubai and Abu Dhabi routes but backtracked from the decision as the government asked the national airliner not to carry any passenger from Dubai and Abu Dhabi to Dhaka.

Biman argued that operation of one way flights only (Dhaka-Dubai and Dhaka-Abu Dhabi) would cause huge losses for them.

Biman is now operating flights to three out of its 17 international destinations.
