Auto-rickshaw driver trampled to death by herd of elephants in Ctg
An auto-rickshaw driver died after being trampled by a herd of elephants at Bazalia union of Chattogram's Satkania upazila yesterday evening.
Two passers-by were injured while trying to save the victim.
The deceased is Md Nesar Ahmed (55) of Dhormopur village of Bazalia union.
Molla Jahangir, sub-inspector of Satkania police station, told The Daily Star that around 7:45pm Nesar was heading home after parking his auto rickshaw at a garage and was caught unawares by the herd of elephants, was trampled and died on the spot.
The SI said two passers-by were also injured when they tried to save Nesar.
Abu Naser Mohammed Yeasin Newaz, divisional forest officer of wildlife and nature conservation wing of the forest department, told The Daily Star that a herd of eight elephants swooped on the village from a nearby forest.
They sent a team to the spot to investigate how it happened and will organise events to raise awareness of human-elephant conflict, he added.
