AL leader stabbed by rival party men

A local leader of ruling Awami League (AL) sustain severe stab injuries in an attack allegedly by his party rivals over previous enmity under Sujanagar municipality area on Tuesday night.

The victim, Mohammad Rajab Ali, 45, son of Abdus Sattar of Ekener village under Sujanagar municipality, is a working committee member of Sujanagar municipality unit AL.

Critically injured Rajab is now undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).

Sujanagar municipality unit AL President Ferdous Alam Firoz said, a group of seven to eight men swooped on Rajab while he was sitting at a shop near Ekener Intersection around 8:30pm on Tuesday.

Local people rescued Rajab and took him to Pabna General Hospital from, from where he was later shifted to RMCH as his condition deteriorated, he said, adding that, Rajab is a follower of Sujanagar upazila unit AL General Secretary and Upazila Parishad Chairman Shahinur Rahman.

His party rivals, also supporters of Sujanagar AL President and Municipality Mayor Abdul Wahab, might have attacked him over previous enmity, Firoz added.

OC of Sujanagar Police Station Mohammad Badruddoza said although no case has been filed in connection with the incident, they were investigating the incident.
