AL announces candidates for 3rd phase of municipal elections
Awami League today announced the names of 64 mayoral candidates for the third phase of municipal elections scheduled for January 30.
The announcement came after a meeting of Bangladesh Awami League's Local Government Representative Nomination Board held at the Gono Bhaban with AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
The ruling party declared its nominated mayoral candidates for 4 municipalities in Rangpur Division, 12 municipalities in Rajshahi Division, 9 municipalities in Khulna Division, 8 municipalities in Barishal Division, 12 in Dhaka Division, 8 in Mymensingh Division, 3 in Sylhet Division and 8 municipalities in Chattogram Division, according to an AL press release.
The third phase elections to 64 municipalities of different districts will be held on January 30 as per the schedule announced by the Election Commission (EC).
The deadline for the submission of nomination papers is December 31, while the date for scrutiny of nomination papers is January 3 and the last date for the withdrawal of candidature is January 10.
The Election Commission earlier announced the schedules for the first and second phases of the municipality elections to 25 municipalities on December 28 and 61 municipalities on January 16.
