A court here on Tuesday sent the expelled chairman of Birgaon Union Parishad (UP) in Nabinagar upazila to jail, rejecting his bail prayer in a case for killing a rickshaw-puller during a clash on April 12.
Earlier on Monday night, a team of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-9) arrested Chairman Kabir Ahmed, 48, prime accused in Mobarak murder case, from Sindurkhan area in Moulvibazar's Srimangal upazila.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (Nabinagar Circle) said Kabir was running stationery business in Srimangal, hiding his identity.
On April 12, amid the lockdown, at least 50 people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers, one led by Krishnanagar UP Chairman Zillur Rahman and the other by Abu Kausar Molla, at Thanakandi village, over establishing supremacy in the area.
During the clash, men of Kabir, a supporter of Kausar Molla, cut-off Mobarak's left leg and paraded the area with the severed leg.
Injured Mobarak later died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital while undergoing treatment there on April 15.
A case was filed with the police station, accusing over 100 people including Kabir, on April 14.
