6 killed as bus rams into private car in Mymensingh

Six people, including four of a family, were killed when a bus crashed into their rented car on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh this morning.
Among the deceased, Hasna Begum (30), her son Hasibul Hasan (8), sister Nazma Begum (26), and mother-in-law Jannati Begum (60) and private car driver Monir Hossain (50) are from Rudrapur in Joydevpur of Gazipur while Monir's friend Billal Hossain (45) was from Darirampur village in Mymensingh's Trishal upazila, reports our Mymensingh correspondent.
Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge of Bhaluka Model Police Station Mohammad Mainuddin said a bus of Imam Paribahan, headed towards Dhaka from Mymensingh, hit the Mymensingh-bound private car when it was taking a U-turn on the highway around 8:45am.
All five passengers of the private car and the driver died on the spot, the SI said.
Five passengers of the bus sustained injuries and were given treatment at Bhaluka Upazila Health Complex. Police seized the bus but its driver fled the scene.
Meanwhile, two cattle traders were killed in a head-on collision between two trucks at Jashora in Mymensingh's Nandail upazila around 6:00am.
The deceased -- Saidul Islam (42) and Mostakim Hossain (20) -- were residents of Pakundia in Kishoreganj district. Officer-in-Charge of Nandail Police Station Mansur Ahmed said they were in a truck carrying cattle when they hit another broke-down truck from the back on the Mymensingh-Kishoreganj regional road around 6:00am.
Saidul died on the spot while Mostakim was declared dead at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, the OC added.
They were returning home in Kishoreganj with their cows from Roumari in Kurigram, said police. Police seized the truck but its driver managed to flee the scene.
