4 killed in separate accidents in Gaibandha, Bogura

Head-on collision between a private car and a covered-van killed three and injured three others at the Nundah Bridge (Baluaya) area on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway under Gobindaganj area of Gaibandha. The accident occurred around 4:30 am.

The deceased were Md Shahed (40), his brother Md Kazol (32) and Shahidul Islam (55). They were garment workers and were going home in the covered-van, reports our Bogura correspondent quoting Abdul Kader Zilani, officer-in-charge of Gobindaganj Highway Police Station.

The accident occurred when the covered van -- heading to Rangpur from Dhaka -- hit a private car coming from the opposite direction and lost control. The van turned over and the three garment workers who were on it died on the spot.

Three passengers in the private car were injured and took primary treatment from Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex. Police seized the car and the covered van, but the driver of the van managed to flee, said the OC.

The dead bodies are being kept on the premises of the police station. Relatives are coming and the bodies will be handed over to them.  A case is being filed against the covered van driver, the OC said.

Another road accident killed an NGO worker Shapla Khatun (32) at the Ron Bagha area on the Bogura-Natore regional highway under Bogura's Nandigram upazila around 9:00am today.

"The accident occurred when Shapla was coming with her husband and daughter on a motorcycle from her workplace to Bogura's Kahaloo upazila for Eid holidays. The motorbike slipped on the road and Shapla went under the wheels of a truck and died on the spot, said Saiful Islam, in-charge of Kundarhaat Highway Police Outpost in Bogura.

Locals managed to stop the truck and caught the driver. The driver is now under police custody. Action will be taken against him, said the police official.
