3 teens at Jashore juvenile correction centre die of head injuries: autopsy report
The three teens at Jashore juvenile correction centre died of serious head injuries, autopsy report said today.
The three also sustained injuries in legs and backside, our Benapole correspondent reports quoting Dilip Kumar Roy, superintendent of Jashore General Hospital.
Jashore Civil Surgeon Sheikh Abu Shaheen said, "We received the autopsy report and have sent it to Jashore superintendent of police."
Three teenagers -- Parvez Hasan Rabbi (18), Rasel alias Sujon (18), and Naeem Hossain (17) -- were allegedly tortured to death by several staffers and senior inmates on Thursday. Several others were also injured.
According to the injured inmates, who had also been through similar abuse, they, including the deceased, were tortured in two phases from noon to evening on Thursday as a "punishment" of their involvement in a scuffle with the head guard of the centre on August 3.
The authorities, however, earlier claimed the casualties took place following a clash between two groups of inmates.
On Friday, Roka Mia, father of the deceased Rabbi, filed a murder case with Jashore Kotwali Police Station.
Police arrested five officials of the juvenile center in connection with the incident.
Among them superintendent of the centre—Abdullah Al Masud-- was suspended that night by the social welfare ministry for negligence in duty.
The ministry later suspended four other officials of the centre in this connection, according to a letter sent from the ministry yesterday night.
They are: Masum Billah, assistant superintendent, Mushfikur Rahman, psychosocial counsellor, physical instructor Shahanur and technical Instructor Omar Faruk, said Asit Kumar Saha, deputy director of Jashore Social Welfare Department today.
