2 killed in AL factional clash in Patuakhali, 4 held

Two persons were killed in a clash between two factions of Awami League in Bauphal upazila of Patuakhali district today.

The deceased were identified as Ruman Talukder (33), vice-president of the union unit of Jubo League, and Riyad Hossain (24), an activist of the union unit of Swechhasebak League.

Mahfuzur Rahman, additional superintendent of police in Patuakhali, confirmed the matter to The Daily Star.

The incident happened around 7:00pm this evening at Keshabpur Bazar in Bauphal between the supporters of Keshabpur union AL unit president and general secretary which left two persons critically injured, police said.

They were rushed to Baufal upazila health complex where they succumbed to their injuries, the law enforcers also said.

Police arrested four persons in this connection. The identities of the arrestees, however, could not be known immediately. Police are conducting drives to nab the others involved in the incident.
