2 dead during building demolition in Gaibandha
Two men died in Gaibandha Sadar upazila during the demolition of a market building this afternoon.
The deceased are identified as construction worker Md Azad Mia (40), and office assistant of Gaibandha BSCIC office Abdul Wahed Ali (45), reports our Bogura correspondent quoting Md Bokhtiar Uddin, Gaibandha Fire Service and Civil Defence official.
Construction workers including Azad Mia were demolishing a market building at Kacharibari area as the adjacent road is going to be extended into a four-lane one, the official said quoting locals.
Around 1pm a beam of the building fell down, pinning the duo to the ground.
"We rushed to the spot and found Azam dead," the fire service official said, adding that they rescued critically injured Abdul Wahed and rushed him to Gaibandha Sadar Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead around 2pm.
"While conducting the rescue operation we did not see any safety gear used by the workers," he added.
