179 centres in Dinajpur, Joypurhat, Naogaon 'risky'

Around 179 of the 358 polling centres in 41 unions of six upazilas under Dinajpur, Joypurhat and Naogaon districts have been marked as risky, said election officials of the districts.

The 4th phase of the union parishad elections will be held tomorrow (May 7).

According to election officials, elections will be held in 20 unions in Parbatipur and Chirirbandar upazilas of  Dinajpur, two unions in Khetlal and five unions in Akkelpur upazila of Joypurhat, and 12 unions in Sapahar and Porsha upazilas of Naogaon district.

In Chirirbandar, elections will be held in 12 unions of the upazila. Voters will cast their ballots in 109 polling centres. District election officials said they have marked 75 of the centres as risky.

In Parbatipur, voting will take place in eight out of 10 unions as the Election Commission (EC) postponed elections in two unions, Polashbari and Rampur, over delimitation of the unions. There are 75 polling centres in the eight unions, of which 48 centres have been marked as risky. 

In Joypurhat, elections will be held in seven unions under Akkelpur and Khetlal upazilas. Of them, five unions are in Akkelpur and the rest in Khetlal. In Akkelpur, voters of five unions will cast their ballots in 45 polling centres, of which 30 are marked as risky. In Khetlal, voters of two unions will cast their votes in 12 centres, all of which have been marked as risky.

In Naogaon, elections will be held in 12 unions of Porsha and Sapahar. In Porsha, 30 of 57 polling centres, of have been marked as risky. In Sapahar, 35 out of 60 polling centres are marked as risky.
