HC upholds govt decision over PDB offices transfer
The High Court today upheld a government decision to transfer the offices of Power Development Board (PDB) in Rajshahi and Rangpur zones to private company North West Zone Power Distribution Company (NWZDC).
The court rejected a writ petition filed challenging the legality of the government decision of transferring the offices of PDB in Rajshahi and Rangpur areas to NWZDC, considering that the petition was not moved properly.
The bench of Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Md Jahangir Hossain passed the order after writ petitioner’s lawyer Abdul Matin Khasru told the court that his client will not precede with the petition, as the offices of PDB in Rajshahi and Rangpur areas have already been shifted.
Advocate Abdul Matin Khasru told The Daily Star that Abdul Hannan, a subscriber of PDB, had submitted the writ petition to the HC saying that the government has no authority under the relevant law to transfer any office of the PDB to a private company.
Bangladesh Power Development Board and NWZDC signed a memorandum of understanding on August 1 and decided to transfer the office of PDB in Rajshahi and Rangpur areas to NWZDC.
Deputy Attorney General Amit Talukder opposed the writ petition saying that the offices of PDB in Rajshahi and Rangpur areas have already been transferred to NWZDC and therefore, the petition is not acceptable.
