PM instructed for corrections on Razakar list: Quader
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instructed the authorities concerned to publish a fresh list of Razakars immediately after scrutinizing the names and making necessary corrections.
“There are some mistakes in the list of Razakar. The matter has come to our notice. The prime minister has given necessary instruction to the ministries of home and liberation war affairs to correct the list,” he said.
Quader further said the liberation war affairs ministry has already apologised for the mistakes and gave assurance to correct it.
Also general secretary of Awami League, Quader informed reporters about the PM’s directives after a meeting of AL at party's central party office on Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital.
On Sunday, the government published a list of 10,789 Razakars who collaborated with the Pakistani occupation forces during the country’s Liberation War in 1971.
With more names of freedom fighters cropping up on the Razakars’ list, the home and the Liberation War affairs ministers have traded blame over preparation of the list that has caused nationwide outrage.
The Daily Star yesterday found 17 freedom fighters and organisers of the 1971 Liberation War on the list. Earlier, this newspaper noticed the names of seven freedom fighters on it.
Protests over the faulty list spread across the country yesterday as pro-liberation people held demonstrations in the capital, Barishal, Barguna, Rajshahi and elsewhere, demanding withdrawal of the list published by the Liberation War affairs ministry on Sunday.
