Adilur Rahman Khan, secretary of Odhikar, a human rights organisation, today said that he does not know the actual reason behind his detention at Kuala Lumpur airport in Malaysia.

“I was detained at Kuala Lumpur airport despite having valid document. I am still unknown the actual reason behind my detention and deportation,” Adilur, also a Supreme Court lawyer, said.

Adilur, who was detained at the Kuala Lumpur airport on July 19 and sent back the following day, brought the allegation while addressing a press conference at Odhikar office in Dhaka this noon.

The immigration authority detained him at the airport after he reached there to attend an international seminar.

He also alleged that a good number of “Bangladeshis are being detained and harassed like him at the airport without showing any reason despite having legal documents”.

“Even the Malaysian authority does not mention any reason for the detention,” said Adilur.

He alleged that the airport authority did not provide him with any food except water without money. "I paid $100 to get some food, tea and a soup," he said, adding the “other Bangladeshi detainees were facing the same situation there”.

Adilur said he saw many detainees, who have no money in their possession to buy any food. "I saw some were only drinking water to survive."
