‘Gift’ from India: 20 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccine to reach Dhaka tomorrow
The 20 lakh doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine -- "gift" from Indian government -- will reach Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka around 1:30pm tomorrow.
Health Minister Zahid Maleque will receive the vaccines while Indian High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami and other government officials will attend the event.
Secretary of the health services Abdul Mannan shared the information at a press conference this noon.
There will also be a dry run on 400-500 people at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Kurmitola General Hospital, Mugda Medical College Hospital and Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital.
"We will keep these vaccine recipients under observation for seven days," Abdul Mannan said.
The day before starting the dry run, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will virtually inaugurate the vaccination campaign at a hospital in Dhaka.
Some 20-25 health workers and other frontline workers, freedom fighters and civil society members will be vaccinated at the inaugural session.
