NTV video editor murder: HC upholds one’s death, jail sentence of 3 others

The High Court today upheld a trial court verdict that sentenced a man to death and three others for different terms of imprisonment in a case filed over the murder of NTV journalist Atiqul Islam Atiq in 2009.

The High Court bench of Justice Shahidul Karim and Justice Md Akhtaruzzaman delivered the verdict after holding hearing on the death reference and appeals filed by the convicts challenging the lower court verdict.

Atiq, 32, a video editor of private television channel NTV, was shot dead on February 13, 2009 by muggers in Moghbazar area while he was on his way home.

On June 24, 2014, a Dhaka court sentenced mugger Shakil Sikdar to death, two others -- Abdullah Mohammad Ibne Ali Sarkar Nahid and Md Forkan -- to life term and Md Khokon to three years’ imprisonments for killing Atiq.
