Youth arrested for stabbing Hefajat leader
Police have arrested a youth on the charge of stabbing Hefajat-e-Islam's central leader Jasim Uddin in Dhaka's Lalbagh area on Tuesday.
Masum Hasan Imran (30) was held in the capital's Dakshinkhan on Friday, KM Ashraf Uddin, officer-in-charge of Lalbagh Police Station, told The Daily Star. "He was seen in CCTV footage collected from nearby area after the attack. Hasan confessed to attacking Jasim Uddin. Police are interrogating him to know the motive," the OC said.
Maulana Jasim Uddin, assistant secretary general of Hefajat, was stabbed in the back while he was heading towards his Lalmatia home on a rickshaw from Jamia Qurania Arabia Madrasa in Lalbagh around 5pm on Tuesday.
Jasim, a senior teacher of the madrasa, is son-in-law of Mufti Fazlul Haque Amini.
