Wife sues Ctg executive magistrate over dowry
Masudur Rahman Rubel, an apprentice assistant commissioner and executive magistrate of Chattogram district, was accused in a case under the Dowry Prohibition Act yesterday.
His wife Farjana Khanam Rini filed the case with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jasim, accusing Rubel of mental torture for dowry.
The judge took cognisance of the case, recorded the complainant’s statement, and asked the accused to appear before it on January 29.
In the complaint, Rini said Rubel mentally tortured her and told her to give him Tk 50 lakh, a flat, a new car and 30 bhori gold ornaments as dowry. When Rini refused, Rubel threatened to break the wedding bond.
Contacted, Rubel told The Daily Star, “Rini’s allegations are fabricated.”
Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Md Elius Hossain told The Daily Star, “I tried to solve the problem after Rini informed me about it.”
“If Rubel did indeed do something wrong, he will face consequences,” he said.
“I will inform the public administration ministry about the matter after I get information about the case,” he added.
