UNDP, govt sign $33m climate adaptation project

The government and the UNDP yesterday signed an agreement to implement a $33 million project, to build adaptive capacity of women to cope with impacts of climate change.

Secretary to Economic Relations Division (ERD) Monowar Ahmed and UNDP Country Director Sudipto Mukherjee signed the project document at the ERD yesterday.

Mahmud A Shameen Beni, additional secretary of the women and children affairs ministry, signed the document as implementing partner.

The funding will be utilised for a six-year project, “Enhancing adaptive capacity of coastal communities especially women to cope with climate change-induced salinity” expected to benefit about 7 lakh people, half of whom are women living in southwestern districts.
