Two Rab imposters held while stealing truck in Ctg
Police arrested two people who were trying to steal a truck impersonating Rab members in port city's Sholoshahar Gate-2 area yesterday.
The arrestees were identified as Mansur Alam (35) from Raozan upazila and Mintu (35) from Satkania upazila.
Witnesses and police said the on-duty police personnel stopped the truck seeing that a scuffle was taking place inside it. Timon Barua, a constable of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (North Traffic Division), said a person sitting beside the driver was telling him to leave the spot.
Then the driver sought help from police, he said.
At that time, the person, and two others who were escorting the truck riding on two motorbikes, introduced themselves as Rab personnel although they were in plainclothes.
"When I attempted to inform senior police officials, they tried to escape," said the constable, adding that police later detained two with a motorbike.
Other motorcyclist managed to flee, he said.
Traffic Inspector Anil Chakma of Sholoshahar area said the betel nut-laden truck was heading for Dhaka from Kutupalong in Teknaf and the muggers intercepted it in Shah Amanat Bridge area of the city.
