Two killed, 16 injured in Kurigram road crash

One more killed in Ctg road mishap

Two people, including a madrasa student, were killed and 16 students injured when a truck collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw in Bir Pratik Taramon Bibi intersection of Kurigram on Kurigram-Bhurungamari highway yesterday noon.

Auto-rickshaw driver Abdul Halim (28) and Alim student Jobayer Billah (20) died on the spot, reports our Kurigram correspondent.

The truck, carrying around 16 madrasa students, and the auto-rickshaw, carrying two students, collided while crossing from opposite directions.

The vehicles were en route to Fazlul Karim Zamiya Islamia Madrasa for a religious gathering to be held later this month.

On information, police and fire fighters rushed to the spot and rescued the injured, said inspector of Kurigram Sadar Police Station Raju Sarker.

Six of the injured were referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital in critical condition while others were admitted to Kurigram General Hospital, hospital sources said.

In Chattogram, a day labourer was killed as a truck plunged into a roadside ditch at Amjur Hat in Patiya upazila of Chattogram early yesterday morning, reports our Chattogram correspondent.

The deceased was identified as Md Shakil (25).

The accident occurred at Amjur Hat area around 6:30am when a truck carrying building materials and day labourers plummeted into a ditch while trying to overtake another vehicle.

Shakil, one of the labourers, died on the spot while others managed to jump out unhurt, said police.
