Three killed, 22 injured in Faridpur bus-truck collision
Seven people were killed and at least 28 others injured in road accidents across four districts in the last two days, our correspondents report.
In Faridpur, three people were killed and 22 injured when a Madaripur-bound bus collided head-on with a Faridpur-bound truck in Purba Sodardi area under Bhanga upazila around 8:30am yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Sirazul Islam (54), Rezaul Karim (29), and Khobir Uddin Hawladar (58). Sirazul was the bus driver.
The injured were taken to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex and Faridpur Medical College Hospital, said Bhanga highway police.
Following the accident, the highway remained blocked for over an hour. Later, police brought the situation under control and seized both vehicles.
In Rajbari, one died and two were injured when a truck rammed a rickshaw-van in Tatulia bazar area under Baliakandi upazila around 3:30pm yesterday.
Locals rushed Zakir Mondal (32), the rickshaw-van puller, and one of the injured to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, Baliakandi police said quoting locals. Zakir died on the way.
The other injured was taken to Baliakandi Upazila Health Complex.
Locals handed the bus driver over to police.
In Netrakona, two motorcyclists were killed and four passengers were injured in a road accident in Bori area of Barhatta upazila on Monday night.
The deceased were identified as Pronoy Sarker (21) and Mizan Mia (23).
The accident occurred when a Netrakona-bound motorbike collided with another motorbike at Bori area around 8pm, injuring the bikers and passengers critically, said OC Badrul Alam Khan of Barhatta Police Station.
Mizan and Pronoy were taken to Barhatta Upazila Health Complex where they succumbed to their injuries.
The others were referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, the OC added. A case was lodged in this regard.
In Kishoreganj, a motorcyclist was killed in a road accident in Rampur area under Hossainpur upazila on Monday afternoon.
The accident occurred when a sand-laden truck hit the motorbike from behind. The motorcyclist, Rana Mia (20), sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Kishoreganj General Hospital where the doctors declared him dead, said the OC of Hossainpur Police Station.
The truck driver fled the scene with the vehicle, the OC said, quoting locals.
