Three die in road accidents

Three people died in two road accidents across two districts this weekend. A motorcyclist was killed in a road accident on Thakurgaon-Dinajpur highway at Jagannathpur village in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila yesterday afternoon, reports our Thakurgaon correspondent.

The victim was identified as Asaduzzaman (42), son of late Tasimuddin of Begunbari village under the same upazila. The victim was an office assistant of Thakurgaon upazila administration office.

Officer-in-Charge of Thakrugaon Police Station Md Ashikur Rahman said the accident occurred  around 12pm. Quoting witnesses, the OC said Asaduzzaman fell on the road when a Dinajpur-bound speeding bus hit his vehicle from behind. Then the bus driver ran him over, killing him on the spot. 

On information, police with help of locals recovered the body and handed it over to his family after completion of legal formalities.

A case was filed in this connection, the OC said.

Two persons were killed in a road crash at Kashipur under Airport Police Station on Dhaka-Barishal highway  in Barishal Metropolitan area on Friday midnight, reports our Jhalakathi correspondent.

The deceased were -- battery-run auto-rickshaw driver Siddik Hossain (55), son of Md Haider Ali from Babuganj upazila of Barishal, and Lokman Hossain (39), son of Abdur Rof Bapari of Rampatti under Airport Police Station.

Siddik was going towards the airport with passenger Lokman when their vehicle collided with a high-speed BRTC bus coming from the opposite direction. The driver died on the spot while Lokman died on the way to Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital, said Jahid Bin Alom, officer-in-charge of the police station.

Police has detained the bus, but the driver and helper managed to flee, added the OC. A case will be filed in this connection, said the OC.
