Star journo wins 2 awards
Mohammad Jamil Khan, staff correspondent of The Daily Star, was yesterday named winner in two categories of “Crime Reporters’ Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) Best Reporting Award-2019”, for his reports in print media.
Jamil won the award in investigative report on drug abuse category for his report, “Yaba, charity: hand in glove?” published in The Daily Star on February 11. The other award -- on repression on women and children -- was for the report “Trafficked into nightmares”, published on July 22.
The winners were announced at the annual general meeting of CRAB at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU). Each winner will get a crest, certificate and cheque for Tk 25,000.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal was present at the programme as chief guest. Rab director general Benazir Ahmed, CRAB president Abul Khayer, and DRU president Abul Kalam Azad were also present.
The other awardees are -- Huzaifa Muhammad (Ahmed Zayeef) of daily Prothom Alo for best investigative report in print; Khan Muhammad Rumel of Somoy TV for best investigative report in television; Asif Zaman Sumit of Deepto TV for best report on repression on women and children in television; Dipon Dewan of Banglavision for best report on human rights in television; and Amanur Rahman Roni for best report on human rights (Akhteruzaman Lablu Memorial Medal).
