Self-awareness can help youth cope with it: speakers
Speakers at a virtual talk yesterday said self-awareness can be a tool for the youth to deal with their mental health issues.
Marking World Mental Health Day 2020, Bangladesh Youth Leadership Centre (BYLC) organised the programme titled "Know Thyself: Self Awareness and Mental Well-being", says a press release.
The discussion also focused on how young people can identify their problems and be able to act accordingly.
Besides, speakers discussed the lack of options for affordable mental health support for youth in the South Asian region, and pointed out the social stigma.
They said self-awareness could be effective in places where there is a lack of affordable mental health support for youths.
The discussion was moderated by Adnin Mourin, manager of operations BYLC. Other speakers included Dr Ashique Selim, psychiatrist and managing director of PHWC; Monira Rahman, a human rights activist and country head of Mental Health First Aid Bangladesh; and Rubina Jahan, psychologist and senior manager of the Mental Health Programme at Sajida Foundation.
