Revolutionary Deben Ghosh remembered
Yesterday marked the 22nd death anniversary of anti-British revolutionary Debendra Nath Ghosh. To mark the day, a programme was organised by Biplobi Deben Ghosh Smrity Rakkha Committee at Barishal city's Kali Group Theater auditorium in the afternoon.
Speakers at the programme said the ideals of revolution do not die, so the revolutionary Deben Ghosh will live for ever.
During the British period, Deben faced 26 years of jail for fighting for the rights of the poor and deprived people of this country, speakers said, adding that many of today's social problems could be solved if his ideas reached more people.
The speakers also recounted his political career, which lead him to become a parliament member of the provincial council in the 1954 election for United Front.
The speakers recalled that he was a guardian to people of all ages. He was called a "political institution" by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujubur Rahman and had ties with Subhas Chandra Bose.
The programme was presided over by Najmul Hossain Akash, while speakers included Sushanta Ghosh and Vanulal Dey, among others.
Earlier, after a floral tribute at Deben Ghosh's grave, artiste Kamal Ghosh performed his favorite song "Bhoy Ki Morone", a popular number among revolutionaries. At the end of the session, educational equipment were distributed among children from the region's Dalit community.
