‘Reopen campus, dormitories now’
Students of Rajshahi University yesterday staged a sit-in in front of the residence of the vice chancellor and gave the authorities a 24-hour ultimatum for reopening the campus and dormitories.
Around 100 students brought out a procession from Paribahan Chattar around 11am and stopped in front of the VC's residence, parading the main roads inside the campus.
There, they staged the sit-in to press home their demand. They were shouting slogans: "Vaccine ano, vaccine dao, campus khule dao" (give vaccine, reopen campus), and "Moder dabi ektai, hall campus khola chai" (there's only one demand, reopen halls, campus). 8
Students ended their programme around 12:30pm with the 24-hour ultimatum declared by Mahmud Saki of the Department of Islamic History and Culture.
Over the matter, RU proctor Prof Lutfor Rahman said, "The government has not issued any order to open the campus or halls yet..."
All the universities and dormitories across the country have been closed since March last year due to the pandemic.
